Iloilo City Mayor Mabilog files sick leave, seeks treatment abroad
Embattled Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has filed a sick leave until the end of the month and will undergo treatment abroad, his spokesperson said.
In an ABS-CBN News report, Atty. Mark Piad, Mabilog’s spokesperson, said that the mayor “needs time for treatment” since he is suffering from diabetes.
“He is abroad. He will undergo treatment, as human being he underwent stress and he has diabetes. Most probably it was triggered by stress. He needs time for treatment,” Piad was quoted as saying.
Mabilog has been previously tagged by the President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the so-called narco-politicians.
Over the past year, Iloilo has been tagged by Duterte as being a bedrock of illegal drugs in the country, at one point even calling it the “most shabulized” city in the Philippines.
However, Mabilog has been recently cleared by the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency from the list of suspected protectors of illegal drugs.
Duterte lost in Iloilo in the 2016 presidential elections.
