Ex-Iloilo Rep. Boboy Syjuco sued for graft over P5M agri project
Former Iloilo 2nd District Representative Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco Jr. is facing a graft charge before the Sandiganbayan in relation to a P5-million farm inputs and farm implements program of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The Ombudsman said Syjuco violated Section 3(e) of R.A. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act when he “willfully, unlawfully and criminally give unwarranted benefits” to the Tawo Kag Duta sa Kauswagan Cooperative (TKDKC).
A Panay News report said the Ombudsman questioned the May 2004 Sangguniang Bayan (SB) resolution allowing then Alimodian, Iloilo Mayor Bernardo Ambut to enter an agreement with the cooperative for the purchase of farm inputs and equipment.
The resolution deviated from the April 2004 Memorandum of Agreement with DA designating the municipality as implementing agency for the project, according to the Ombudsman.
It was also found that the selection of TKDKC, as non-governmental organization, was not accredited by the DA.
Others charged were Vice Mayor Ramon Anino and SB members Ireneo Mondero, Emmanuel Adricula, Aquiles Cabaluna Jr., Miguel Ambong, Geefre Alonsabe, Job Almacen, and Roberto Alcudia.
The Ombudsman set the respondents’ bail bond at P30,000.
