DSWD starts cleansing process of senior pensioners’s list; HIndi kasi lahat dapat kasama
Not all senior citizens are eligible for social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Western Visayas.
The DSWD-6 said it is now purging its list of such recipients after it got reports that they may have availed of the program.
It expects to complete the purging of the list by yearend (DSWD to delist ineligible social pensioners).
Considered eligible recipients are Filipino citizens aged 60 and up, who do not have a regular source of income, and do not receive regular support from their families.
Neither do they have any other pension from the Social Security System (SSS) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
Gretchen Anne Taleon of the Social Pension Program said they have tapped the help of the Social Welfare Office in the region’s cities and towns.
Under the program, beneficiaries receive P1,500 quarterly. The DSWD transfers the cash to the concerned local government units, which pay out the pension.
For this year, the DSWD reached 77 percent of the 365,908 beneficiaries. In the first quarter, 365,765 beneficiaries got their pensions; 363,337 in the second quarter, 304,331 in the third quarter; and 98,627 in the fourth quarter.
Iloilo City has the most number of beneficiaries with 13, 190 while Belison, Antique has the least with 890.
