DPWH agrees termination of Iloilo erring contractors; Bawas pasaway
The Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 6 has okayed the termination of two contractors in Iloilo City, over the major delays in their projects.
Iloilo City District Engineering Office head Engr. Rodney Gustilo said DPWH-6 regional director Wenceslao Leaño Jr. approved the termination last June 8.
However, contractors JHJ Construction and Legacy Construction Corp. can still seek a reconsideration of the decision within seven days. The DPWH will then have 10 days to decide on the motion for reconsideration (https://thedailyguardian.net/banner-news/cut-and-cut-clean-dpwh-6-head-okays-termination-of-2-city-contractors/).
JHJ and Legacy were recommended for termination of contracts after they incurred more than 15 percent negative slippage or work delays.
Investigation showed JHJ Construction incurred a 62.87 percent slippage in the rehabilitation of concrete road of Iloilo Airport Direct Road and negative 69.7 percent slippage in the reconstruction of the Timawa Avenue road.
Legacy Construction had a 43.77-percent slippage in the construction and improvement of San Juan road in Molo district.
“In the event that the regional director will deny the request and sustain the termination, we will require the contractor to stop working already,” Gustilo said.
The ICDEO and its resident auditor will conduct an inventory to determine the project accomplishment, and pay the contractors accordingly.
It will then re-bid the remaining works to another contractor.
Gustilo said it may take two months to complete the whole termination process.
