Di nagkakaintindihan: Estancia town government, police in tiff over fishing boat

The town government of Estancia in Iloilo are not seeing eye to eye with the police in the area, as shown by their tiff over a boat seized for suspected dynamite fishing.

Port enforcers had seized the fishing boat “Tata Leonard” last April 27, after three blasts were heard near the port at around 9 p.m. that day.

Found in the boat were suspected blasting caps that the port enforcers turned over to the Estancia town police, but the Estancia port management headed by Frank George Sanson complained the police have not filed a complaint against the boat’s owner and operator Leonard Abener and his crew.

Last May 22, Estancia Mayor Rene Cordero was to relay to Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor his concern about the continued dynamite fishing in the town, but Defensor was in Guimaras for the Manggahan Festival 2017.

For his part, Iloilo provincial administrator Raul Banias said he did not receive a report about the police’s alleged reluctance to file a complaint.
