Dahil nagkalat sa pista: Iloilo vice mayor declared persona non grata in barangay
No thanks to his alleged unruly behavior at a fiesta last April, Ajuy (Iloilo) vice mayor Robert Villaruz is now persona non grata in one of the town’s barangays.
Barangay Lanjagan declared Villaruz unwelcome following his behavior at the fiesta last April 23, and filed a complaint against him before the Ombudsman.
But Villaruz denied the allegations and claimed there was a “political motive” behind it (https://thedailyguardian.net/banner-news/barangay-council-declares-vice-mayor-persona-non-grata/).
Outgoing barangay chairman Edito Edillon said the persona non grata declaration stemmed from an incident where Villaruz acted rudely toward two barangay tanods who called his attention for violating a double parking rule.
Villaruz allegedly raised his voice at the tanods and grabbed one of them by the collar.
Edillon said they filed charges for oppression, grave miscount and conduct prejudicial to the interest of the service and betrayal of public trust against Villaruz.
But Villaruz claimed he was having lunch at one of the councilor’s houses when his uncle, the father of Sangguniang Bayan member Carol Espinosa, came and spat at him.
The vice mayor declined to comment further.
