Dahil mahal kuryente? Maasin parishes to use solar energy
In the coming weeks, the parishes of Maasin Diocese in Southern Leyte province will use renewable or solar power for their energy needs.
The diocese is working with WeGen Laudato Si in fulfilling Pope Francis’ call to take care of the environment and to minimize use of fossil fuels.
Jun Cruz, managing director of WeGen Laudato Si, said their ongoing effort should be an inspiration for other dioceses to follow suit.
In an interview on Radyo Veritas, Cruz said the diocese under Bishop Precioso Cantillas will inaugurate the “transition of all their Parishes towards renewable energy.”
The diocese will become the first in the world to have all its churches use solar power, including the one in Limasawa Island where the first Mass in the Philippines was held in 1521.
Cruz added the use by 42 parishes of solar power coincides the diocese’s 50th anniversar on Aug. 14.
Last year, 40 Catholic institutions nationwide had started moving away from the use of fossil fuels.
