Councilors Peñaredondo, Gerochi stripped of key posts
Iloilo City Councilors Eduardo Peñaredondo and R Leone Gerochi were stripped of their chairmanships in the City Council.
Both Peñaredondo and Gerochi are running in next year’s polls under the ticket of incumbent Mayor Jose “Joe” Espinosa III.
“We, the undersigned of the SP comprising the majority, have lost our control and confidence to the leadership of the incumbent sitting and current majority floor leader and assistant, and likewise their ability to lead and chair their respective significant and vital committees,” read part of an SP resolution.
Eight councilors voted to oust the two councilors.
They were councilors Jose Efrain Treñas, Lady Julie Grace Baronda, Ely Estante, Armand Parcon, Maria Irene Ong, Leila Luntao, Plaridel Nava, and Joshua Alim.
Peñaredondo was removed as majority floor leader and as chairman of the committee on rules, energy and public utilities; appropriations; urban planning, housing, and land development; and zoning, expropriation, assessment and land acquisitions.
Gerochi, on one hand, was removed as assistant floor leader and as chairman of the committee on transportation, energy and public utilities.
