Cebu City buying 21 garbage trucks next year
The Cebu City Government is planning to purchase 21 compactor trucks worth P232 million next year.
This will significantly reduce waste disposal expenses, which stand at P420 million.
The city currently rents garbage trucks to help collect and dispose of trash. This year alone, garbage truck rentals cost P133.67 million.
“We are aiming that next year, between January to March, we will be able to finally purchase the 21 compactor trucks so that by July to December we won’t have to pay for the rental,” said Department of Public Services (DPS) Assistant Department Head John Paul Gelasque said in a Cebu Daily News article.
For next year, the DPS is asking a total of P629 million to fund its garbage collection and disposal services as well as street lighting and street cleaning program.
