Busina ka muna! Duterte must consult Visayas politikos on Martial Law expansion–Mayor Osmeña
Talk to local politikos first before expanding Martial Law coverage to the Visayas.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña had this to say Thursday (May 25) after President Rodrigo Duterte bared in his arrival speech from Russia that he could also place Visayas under military rule.
Two days earlier, the Chief Executive declared Martial Law over the entire Mindanao group of islands after ISIS-inspired Maute Group members launched an attack in Marawi City.
“I hope he will consult the local officials here, which he did not do in Mindanao,” Osmeña was quoted as saying by SunStar Online.
” It’s okay he did not consult the local officials there because he is already from there. But I’m from here and there are those people like me,” the mayor added.
Former Davao City Mayor Duterte said that he could expand Martial Law coverage to Visayas in order to prevent the terrorist threat from spilling over.
That notwithstanding, Osmeña reckoned that it’s almost impossible for such terrorists to penetrate Cebu City. Thus, there’s no urgency to extend military rule to Visayas.
Martial Law will last in Mindanao for at least 60 days.
