Benitez, Romualdez lead top five list of richest Visayan solons
The House of Representatives released the 2016 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) of its members on Friday, and as expected, Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez remains to be the richest Visayan congressman with a net worth of close to P1 billion.
Benitez declared a total asset of P1.08 billion and a liability of just P140 million, which yielded a total net worth of P942 million. Benitez ranked third richest House member overall.
The second richest Visayan solon is Leyte first District Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez with P477.94 million, with no listed liabilities. Romualduez, a first time congresswoman, ranked 10th overall.
Iloilo fourth district Rep. Fergenel Biron was the third richest congressman from Visayas with P352.31 million total asset and P110.50 million toial liabilities resulting to a total net worth of P241.81 million. He ranked 15th overall.
Leyte fourth district Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez was the fourth richest Visayan solon with a total net worth of P178. 83 million (P201.95 million total assets and P23.15 million total liabilities). The actress-turned-politician ranked 23rd overall.
Fifth richest Visayan solon was Samar first district Rep. Edgar Sarmiento with a total net worth of P137,21 million with zero liabilities. He ranked 29th overall.
1-Pacman Rep. Michael Romeo (P7 billion) and Diwa party-list Rep. Emmeline Aglipay-Villar (P1.4 billion) were the top two richest House members.
