Bakit ngayon lang? Tommy Osmeña says of Gwen Garcia’s dismissal
The dismissal order came eight years late, so says this politiko.
Mayor Tomas “Tommy” Osmeña backed the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman removing Cebu Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia from her post over a questionable land purchase back when she was governor.
Osmeña said Garcia deserved the dismissal order, saying that it should have been handed to her back in 2010.
“Gwen says she questions the timing. I also question the timing. She should have been dismissed in 2010,” Osmeña said.
He even included a hashtag that read “you can’t buy land if it’s underwater,” referring to the Balili property which is the subject of the grave misconduct ruling.

The Ombudsman handed the decision after discovering that Garcia went through the land purchase without the authority of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
The acquired land was meant to be the site for housing and resettlement, but it was discovered that a portion of the land is actually submerged in a mangrove area.
