Ano sey niyo MOA, Iglesia? Iloilo City to build sports arena
The Iloilo City government is preparing a feasibility study of a proposed site for the Iloilo Sports Arena, city administrator Atty. Hernando Galvez said.
Galvez said that while the sports arena project had been pending since 2004, they need a formal feasibility study before entering into a contract with the builders.
Earlier, the city council authorized Mayor Jose Espinosa III to negotiate a P500-million loan from either the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) or the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for the arena.
For now, Espinosa said that they are looking into the La Paz Plaza as the site for the sports facility (https://thedailyguardian.net/local-news/city-govt-to-study-site-for-proposed-sports-arena/).
He said they are considering La Paz Plaza as it is considered as a sports plaza, and not a heritage site.
The mayor said they want the arena to be a fully air-conditioned facility that can seat 7,000 people, with tennis courts and a football field.
Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo added the new site is not included in the heritage structure.
“You can avail of the parking space, because the area is wide enough that you can have a parking space on one side and there’s no problem of parking,” Peñaredondo said.
Before the La Paz Plaza, the city considered some areas in Molo and the Terminal Market as proposed sites for the arena.
However, Espinosa said the Molo site was too costly because of issues on the land area while the Terminal Market site had limited parking space.
