Aklan to Duterte: Keep Boracay open
The Aklan provincial board called on President Rodrigo Duterte to keep Boracay open for business.
In a resolution, the provincial board asked Duterte to reconsider his decision to close Boracay while the world famous island is being rehabilitated.
Duterte earlier threatened to close Boracay for being a “cesspool.”
Aklan Board Member Esel Flores said Duterte’s warning should be enough for local politikos to take action.
Flores said around 18,000 workers will be affected if Boracay’s closure will push through.
“Ongoing efforts to restore the island can still be done, and continue to be done, while Boracay Island remains open for economic and tourism activities,” he said.
