Afraid of Espenido? Duterte tells why Mabilog doesn’t want to go home
President Rodrigo Duterte believes Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is hesitant to return to the country because he believes Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido is out to get him.
In a speech before cops in Malacañang Wednesday (September 20), Duterte said he already delivered on his promise to nab “big fishes” in the campaign against illegal drugs by neutralizing certain narcopolitikos.
“Itong si Mabilog, hindi na nga umuwi eh. Siguro alam niya na si Espenido naghihintay,” he said.
Mabilog left the country in August and has yet to return. He filed a sick leave on September 1, saying he needed to seek treatment for diabetes abroad.
Duterte has tagged Mabilog as a narcopolitiko.
Espenido remains the police chief of Ozamiz City after Duterte recalled his posting to Iloilo.
